Mirror mirror on the wall – who’s the prettiest of them all? This was probably the important question Revlon SA asked – before choosing a new beauty as the face of Revlon.
Sunday Sun can reveal that the beauty company dumped former Miss South Africa, Bokang Montjane, and brought in TV star, Bonang Matheba. According to industry sources, talks between the company and Bokang were in the final stage – when there was a sudden change of management. And the new management decided to ditch Bokang at the 11th hour in favour of Bonang.
While Bonang was celebrating her appointment, the 2010 Miss SA was nursing a broken heart. “Bokang was devastated when she discovered that she was no longer going to be the face of Revlon,” said the source. The insider went on: “Bonang only surfaced at the last minute with the new management! Bokang was supposed to have been unveiled last month, but the new management didn’t want her, and they announced Bonang.”
Bokang was only one of the 10 women who were in the running, according to Adele du Plessis of Revlon SA. Du Plessis said the process of looking for the face of Revlon took months. “We carried out extensive consumer research to find out which girl most consumers would prefer. And Bonang came out at number one,” said du Plessis.
She denied that Bokang was dumped due to management changes at Revlon.“That’s not true. It was just a process that included a lot of consultations with consumers,” du Plessis explained.
But Bonang said she didn’t know there were other people under consideration. Said Bonang: “When I was asked to be the face, I didn’t know anything. The company was dealing with my lawyers.”
Simphiwe Majola, Bokang’s publicist said: “Bokang was not aware that she was one of the 10 girls to be considered for the Revlon endorsement deal nor did the Revlon Marketing team inform us at any stage”. – Sunday Sun
